Bob and Chris love fishing the Chesapeake Bay whenever they can. With that in mind, they have snagged a few Salt Series knives to hold up to the water that their knives encounter there. As they have become believers in the materials used. They decided to start making them available in their store.
A big myth in the knife world is that out there somewhere is a knife that seriously cuts but cannot rust. Knives claiming these super powers are usually made with steels that are unable to hold a cutting edge for any measurable amount of time. Finally a steel foundry in Japan called Myodo Foundry makes this myth a reality with the introduction of a steel called H1. H1 steel is a PH steel, meaning it is a precipitation-hardened steel. "Huh" you ask? Utilizing .1% nitrogen instead of carbon to harden the steel, it reaches a Rockwell hardness of 57-58rc. Spyderco uses H1 on its C91 Pacific Salt model.
The Pacific Salt 2 epitomizes Spyderco’s relentless pursuit of Constant Quality Improvement (C.Q.I.) in everything we do. It combines the ultra-corrosion-resistant qualities of H-1® blade steel with the refined ergonomics and four-position pocket clip of the best-in-class Endura 4 Lightweight.
Its linerless construction also further reduces the knife’s weight and its vulnerability to corrosion. This version of the Pacific Salt 2 features a bright yellow handle that is easy to see in and around the water with a choice of a PlainEdge™ or fully serrated SpyderEdge™ blade.
